Question:

I have a source text file where each address record occupies 3 lines, and there is a blank line between each record. How do I define the structure so each line can be mapped to a data field in a CSV text file?

Answer:

The right Pervasive DataTools product is the Data Loader to CSV Text. Order a free trial license and give it a try as follows:

Select ""ASCII (Delimited)"" as the Source connection type. In the Source Properties grid, set the following:

  • RecordSeparator = Blank Line
  • FieldSeparator = CR-LF

If the first record in the source file is a header record that contains field names, set the Header value to ""True"".

If there are no quotation marks around each line of data in your text file, set these Properties options, also:

  • FieldStartDelimiter = None
  • FieldEndDelimiter = None

Select ""ASCII (Delimited)"" as the Target connection type. In the Target Properties grid, set the field and record separators, header, and other options as needed.

On the Map Fields tab, drag and drop the source fields to create the structure of the target CSV data file as needed.

Use the Expression Builder to write expressions to clean, transform, and filter the data as needed.

Run the transformation map.
