Speed Up Expression Testing and Debugging with Expression Tester Utility

Located in the default installation directory and executed via the command line, the Expression Tester Utility (“exptest.exe”) can greatly speed up your expression testing and debugging. With this utility, you can test code written in the expression language without having to create a whole new Transformation or Process.

If you're trying to develop expressions that do not depend on Source/Target values (or where the Source/Target values can be simulated), it's much faster to edit a text file and run “exptest”. You can use the Print function instead of the Msgbox or LogMessage functions, which will speed up the process even more. The Print function can also be used to print out values of variables, which are output to the command line at runtime.

Additionally, “exptest” can be utilized as a Technical Support tool. When you have troublesome code, you can send Technical Support the text file and say, “This does not work in the exptest utility." This is much faster and easier than sending a potentially huge .zip file containing the usual files, such as “.tf.xml”, Source/Target files and others.

In your email from Pervasive Software:

1. Open the email from Pervasive Software



2. Click on the Actions menu on the top of your email window.
3. Choose Junk Email.
4. Select Add Senders Domain .... to Safe Senders List to add Pervasive Software to your safe sender list.
