You may configure your workstation to run the Workgroup engine as a service rather than as a console application. This allows the engine to start automatically when the operating system starts. A user is not required to log in to start the engine.
No tray icon appears when you run the Workgroup engine as a service.
Refer to the following Pervasive PSQL Knowledge Base articles for the steps to run the engine as a service
http://support.pervasive.com/esupport/
.
Note that on Windows 32-bit platforms, a valid user name and password are required to access Pervasive PSQL databases on another machine. "System Account" has no rights on other machines to Pervasive PSQL databases.
If you want the Pervasive Workgroup service to access databases on another machine, then you must specify a valid user name and password for the other machine. Access the properties for the Pervasive Workgroup service. (Double-click the service on the Services dialog.) Check the option This Account on the Log On As section and specify a valid user name and password.
To stop the service on Window 98/ME, you must remove the service from the RunServices registry setting. For example, you would delete the string value Pervasive Workgroup (or whatever you named the string) and its data, C:\Pvsw\Bin\ W3dbsmgr.exe -SRDE -SERVICE, from HKEY_LOCAL_ MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\ RunServices. If you want to stop and then restart the service (and not permanently remove the service), then just reboot the machine.
You stop the service on Windows 32-bit platforms just as you would any other service.
