About the Java Database Connectivity (JDBC) Driver

The PSQL JDBC driver is a Type 4, 100% Pure Java certified client driver. The driver supports the JDBCTM 2.0 standard. The driver works on all platforms that support the JVM.

The PSQL JDBC driver is a thin client that does a minimum amount of processing. The driver relies on the server for the core processing logic such as syntax analysis and query processing. Communication to the PSQL Server is via the server's native LNA network protocol.

The JDBC driver for PSQL is shipped with the PSQL engine. The PSQL SDK release adds the JDBC samples.

For information on new and changed JDBC functionality in PSQL v12, see What’s New in PSQL.
