About PDAC

PSQL Direct Access Components (PDAC) are a set of Visual Component Library (VCL) components that allow direct access to PSQL database engines from within the Embarcadero Delphi and C++ Builder Environments. These components provide a replacement for the functionality of the Borland Database Engine (BDE). PDAC dramatically extends the database development options available to Delphi, C++ Builder, and RAD Studio developers.

The PSQL Direct Access Components are provided in versions fully integrated with the following development environments:

  • Delphi 2006
  • Delphi 2007
  • C++ Builder 2007
  • RAD Studio 2009
  • RAD Studio 2010
  • RAD Studio XE
  • RAD Studio XE2 (32-bit PDAC components only)
  • RAD Studio XE3 (32-bit PDAC design time and 32- and 64-bit PDAC runtime components)
  • RAD Studio XE4 (32-bit PDAC design time and 32- and 64-bit PDAC runtime components)
  • RAD Studio XE5 (32-bit PDAC design time and 32- and 64-bit PDAC runtime components)
  • RAD Studio XE6 (32-bit PDAC design time and 32- and 64-bit PDAC runtime components)
  • RAD Studio XE7 (32-bit PDAC design time and 32- and 64-bit PDAC runtime components)
  • RAD Studio XE8 (32-bit PDAC design time and 32- and 64-bit PDAC runtime components)
  • RAD Studio 10 (32-bit PDAC design time and 32- and 64-bit PDAC runtime components)
  • RAD Studio 10.1 (32-bit PDAC design time and 32- and 64-bit PDAC runtime components)

Note  XE3, XE4, XE5, XE6, XE7, XE8, XE10 and XE10.1 require the latest update for PSQL v12.

References to RAD Studio 2009, 2010, XE, XE2, XE3, XE4, XE5, XE6, XE7, XE8, XE10 and XE10.1 refer only to the Delphi and C++ Builder components supported in PSQL v12.

System Requirements

Existing installation of PSQL v12 database engine if you want to use the features of that release.

Getting Started

The runtime files for the PDAC access method are installed with the PSQL engine by default.

The header files and sample files are available for download from the PSQL website.

Using the Samples with the PVideoDB Database

The PDAC samples reference a database named PVideoDB, which simulates the management of a video store. The PDAC download file includes the data files and dictionary files (DDFs) for PVideoDB, but you must create the database itself. The data files and DDFs are in <directory>\samples\PvideoDB, where <directory> is the location where you installed the PDAC header files and samples.

Use the following steps to create the PVideoDB database, which is required to use the PDAC samples.

1.    Start PSQL Control Center from the Start menu.

2.    In PSQL Explorer, expand the Engines node.

3.    Right-click on the desired server where the database engine is running.

4.    Click New > Database.

5.    Enter PVideoDB for Database Name and use it for the DSN name.

6.    Specify <directory>\samples\PVideoDB for Location, where <directory> is the location where you installed the header and sample files.

7.    Click Finish.

8.    Exit PSQL Control Center.

Known Issues

Known issues for PSQL v12 are published on the PSQL website.
