UNITRIN BUSINESS INSURANCE SELECTS PERVASIVE TO SOLVE COMPLEX INTEGRATION CHALLENGES WITH INSURANCE AGENCY PARTNERS

Leading U.S. insurance carrier chooses Pervasive solution to process and exchange policy information in AL3-based ACORD standard

AUSTIN, TEXAS – November 15, 2005 - Pervasive Software® Inc. (Nasdaq: PVSW), a global value leader in data infrastructure software, today announced that Unitrin Business Insurance (UBI) has selected Pervasive’s integration solution, recently launched as MessageStore Data Hub, to enable data exchange with more than 800 property and casualty agencies. Leveraging the AL3 standard from ACORD (Association for Cooperative Operations Research and Development), UBI will exchange 3,000 transactions daily and 12 megabytes of data with 25 different agency management systems.

UBI, a segment of the Unitrin, Inc. family, expects to improve efficiencies and streamline processes, based on past experiences with the solution, to improve agent and customer service by selecting and implementing the Pervasive data hub solution. “The capabilities of the Pervasive integration solution are attractive to us, yet it is a quarter of the price of the other vendors we reviewed,” says Cheryl Moore, IT project leader at UBI. “Pervasive provides the functionality we require to leverage ACORD standards and offers the features, upgrades, and technical support that are lacking from other vendors. Choosing Pervasive for the AL3 exchange project was the best decision we could have made.”

The Pervasive solution will enable UBI to exchange policy information with more than 800 agency partners that utilize 25 different agency management systems, including AMS, Delphi and Applied. The new system will automate the data feeds required by each of the agency management systems while enabling UBI to maintain one system of record. Pervasive is providing the capacity to read and translate incoming formats from any of UBI’s agency partners, and automatically populate the UBI databases, while using the AL3 standard as the common exchange format.

"Organizations need to be able to create flexible data integration hubs to consolidate that information, whether structured or unstructured, into a single target database. In response to this need, we have developed specific solutions for insurance and healthcare, which directly address standards-based data integration such as ACORD, HIPAA and HL7," said Chip Harmon, general manager, Integration Division for Pervasive Software. "Now companies like UBI can easily and cost-effectively access, integrate, and consolidate data, and leverage our significant expertise and track record in the insurance markets."

Pervasive’s data hub solution offering, called MessageStore, provides high-value, low-cost data management for companies in highly regulated industries such as healthcare, insurance and financial services. MessageStore offers rapid design and implementation of compliance solutions for HIPAA, HL7, ACORD and other industry standards. There is usually no need for custom coding or learning the complexities of the standards themselves. MessageStore also supports historical data retention and auditing of key business data with analytical capabilities that is required by various regulatory bodies. Customers can also receive, integrate, store, audit, and retrieve data sent in various message formats, such as EDI or XML; and non-messaging formats, such as ASCII and COBOL.

The Pervasive data hub solutions combine Pervasive Business Integrator™, appropriate industry standard schemas, and the technical expertise of the Pervasive Professional Services Group (PSG), with a free, optional Pervasive Postgres™ open source database. The software and services are bundled by PSG, which designs the transformation processes, database configuration, and stored procedures. For more information visit http://www.pervasive.com/insurance
