Btrieve Living Up to Its Name at 25!
SD Times looks at a historical account of Btrieve, opening the article with "Before there was a SQL Server Express Edition, before there was even a Java, there was Btrieve..." and highlights the 25th anniversary of Btrieve. Pervasive Database General Manager Gilbert Van Cutsem is quoted on both history and focus.
The article spans the time from the Woodwards’ launch of SoftCraft in 1982 to the birth of Pervasive and the spawn of PSQL ecosystem products covering backup, data security and replication. The article cites an observation in a 1995 book by Jim Kyle that Btrieve "developed a sound reputation and a developer community of more than 5,000." Connolly comments, "Btrieve served the role for Novell...as the ubiquitous embeddable database for applications and services."
