PSQL Radio: Five Billion and Counting...How Many Did You Add This Year?

COBOL has been around forever! In fact, rumor has it that Ben Franklin wrote a COBOL-based application to discover electricity! All kidding aside, many businesses across all industries have relied on COBOL as their back-end architecture.

In fact, according to Gartner Group, over five billion new lines of COBOL are developed every year! And did you know that COBOL applications process over 80% of all daily business transactions and mainframe platforms store 70% of all the data?

In this month's PSQL Radio edition, Product Manager Jim Beecher provides some tips and information on how easy it is to migrate your existing COBOL applications to the Pervasive PSQL database.

Questions that are answered in this month’s edition are:

  • How much COBOL is out there today?
  • Is COBOL still being used today?
  • Is it easy to migrate COBOL applications?
  • How can Pervasive help?
  • Do you have any specific examples?

Depending on your COBOL language, conversion can be as simple as replacing a dll and/or recompiling your application and pointing towards Pervasive. Using Pervasive also allows developers to expand their application around new languages including: .NET, Java and OLEDB. Whatever your case may be, Pervasive can assist you.
